Made in Denmark Golf Preview – 20th August
After a couple of weeks in America, the European Tour returns this week with the Made in Denmark. Last year, Marc Warren shot -9 to win the first Made in Denmark and fortunately, we know a little more about the event and venue this time around. The field is of average strength for a European Tour event, and the weaker fields usually result in a better event from a betting perspective, which is why I like the look of this tournament so much.
The Course – Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort
Course Yardage: 7,033
Last year Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort proved to be a great host for this new event and I expect the same this year. In 1995, Thomas Bjorn recorded his maiden professional victory around this track and he’s gone on to be Denmark’s most successful golfer. The course is a links style venue and if the wind gets up, expect the links specialist to feature. Last year, Marc Warren, Bradley Dredge, Phillip Archer, Thomas Bjorn, Oliver Fisher, Eddie Pepperell, Thorbjorn Olesen, Stuart Manley, Gareth Maybin and Simon Wakefield all finished inside the top ten and all have good links form. Finally, driving accuracy is a stat to look out for because the fairways are narrow and the rough is thick.
Soren Kjeldsen – Playing in his native country, I have to have Kjeldsen on my side this week. The 40 year old is playing some of the best golf he’s played all of his life and despite missing the cut in last week’s PGA Championship, I think he’s a superb bet at 16/1. In his last ten starts, he has recorded six top 20 finishes including a victory in the Irish Open, a 2nd place finish in the Nordea Masters and a tie for 12th in the Bridgestone Invitational two weeks ago. Kjeldsen finished 15th in this event last year and he’s an accurate driver of the ball, therefore I expect him to go well around the course.

Kristoffer Broberg – Kristoffer Broberg is a player I rate highly, and I’m convinced he’ll win in the near future. After a mediocre start to the season, the Swede has produced some good golf in recent weeks, finishing inside the top 30 in six of his last seven starts. Broberg tied for 28th around Himmerland Golf Course last year and it’d be no surprise to see him perform well this week. He’s done well at links venues in the past and is an accurate driver of the ball.

Rikard Karlberg – Rikard Karlberg is not the most consistent of players, however he’s playing some good golf and this week’s venue suits him, therefore he’s well worth a stab at 50/1. He tied for 10th in the Scottish Open recently and more recently finished 9th in the Omega European Masters, this indicating that his games in great shape. Karlberg finished 9th in this event last year and that’s not surprising as he’s a good player in the wind and an accurate driver of the ball.
