CIMB Classic Preview – 29th October
The third event of the 2015/16 PGA Tour season kicks off this week and it’s a great one from a punting perspective. This tournament is the only PGA Tour event which takes place in Asia and the field is a reduced one and no cut is made. The likes of Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garica, Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley and Patrick Reed are all competing which should result in a cracking tournament. Below I’ve previewed the course and recommended three bets which I perceive to be great value.
Past Winners and Winning Scores
2014 – Ryan Moore -17
2013 – Ryan Moore -14
2012 – Nick Watney -22
The Course – Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club
Course Yardage: 6,951
Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club has hosted this event over the past two years and on both occasions, Ryan Moore has won this tournament, shooting 14 under and then 17 under par. The course is a relatively easy par 72 that’ll play 6,951 yards and hot and humid conditions are forecast throughout the week. Having analysed the stats of the past two renewals of this event, there are a few statistic which stand out as being advantageous around Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. Firstly the birdie average statistic appeared to be a big plus in the past two renewals of this event, as did par 3 performance, therefore these are the two stats I’m looking at this week.
Patrick Reed – Patrick Reed didn’t have a great finish to the 2014/15 season but he made a great start to it and I’m backing him to start this season in similar fashion. He’s a four time winner at this level and he played some good golf in the Hong Kong Open last week. In this tournament last year, Patrick Reed finish in 26th position, this indicating it’s a venue he can go well around. He ranks well in both of the stats which I suggested are important, par 3 performance birdie average, therefore it seems a no brainer to have him on our side this week.

Danny Lee – I rate Danny Lee very highly and it won’t be long before he’s one of the best golfers in the world in my opinion. Last year, Lee was outstanding, he finished 9th in the FedEx Cup standings and won on the PGA Tour for the first time. He’s had a few weeks off since his last appearance but knowing Danny, he’ll be excited to be playing tournament golf once again. Kuala Lumpur is a golf course which really suits his game, he finished 17th around this track in a European Tour event in 2011 and tied for 13th in this event last year.
