Alfred Dunhill Championship Betting Tips
It’s the final European Tour event of the year and it’s set to be a good one from a betting perspective. It’s no surprise to see Charl Schwartzel at the front of the betting this week, after all he’s won around this course on four occasions and has won the Alfred Dunhill Championship the previous two years. The field is a relatively weak one however it does feature some quality players, last weeks Nedbank Golf Challenge winner Danny Willett is third in the betting however winning back to back is a very difficult task. Finally the 2010 Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen is the second favourite this week at a very short price of 8/1 after a 7th place finish last week.
The Course – Leopard Creek Country Club
Course Yardage 7287
Leopard Creek Country Club was designed by Gary Played back in 1996 and it has hosted the Alfred Dunhill Championship for ten consecutive years, therefore we know what to expect and what type of players tend to perform well around this golf course. At nearly 7300 yards it’s long and you need to drive the ball well, this is a trait i’ll be focusing on this week. As i’ve mentioned above, Schwartzel has a superb record around Leopard Creek and he is one of the longest drivers of the ball around, on the European Tour this year he is ranked 13th in terms of driving distance. Any score from 10 to 20 under par can win this week, last year Schwartzel shot 17 under and the year before he shot 24 under to win this event and on both occasions he won with ease.
Peter Uihlein – I don’t like to back players shorter than 30/1 usually however i’ll make an exception for Uihlein who warrants a shorter price this week in my opinion. The talented American appears to be rediscovering some form and he maybe inspired by close friend Brooks Koepka who recently won the Turkish Airlines Open. In the same event Uihlein tied for 11th position amongst some of the world’s best golfers. The week previous to the Turkish Airlines Open Peter finished in 4th position once again showing that he’s playing some good golf after a disappointing season. Leopard Creek Country Club should suit Uihlein although his only visit here led to a 55th place finish. Length of the tee is preferable around Leopard Creek and he’s one of the longest players on the European Tour, during the 2014 season he averaged 304.3 yards with his driver.

Gary Stal – During 2014 Gary Stal made his breakthrough on the European Tour and he performed very well throughout the year. He made 20 out of 23 cuts and finished inside the top 25 on six occasions. The young Frenchman has a lot of potential as he proved last season performing very well on a consistent basis. He’s had six weeks off since his last event therefore he’ll be fresh and if he’s been working hard I can see no reason why he can’t contend in South Africa this week. A good performance from tee to green is required around this testing track and Stal has performed well from tee to green for the majority of the season, he’s averaged 73.6% of greens in regulation during the 2014 season which is very impressive.
